Canada & The 1936 Olympics will present an overview of the 1936 Winter and Summer Games in Berlin. It will offer insight into the racist and exclusionary policies of Nazi Germany leading up to and following the Games, and the use of media, propaganda and the idealization of the Aryan body, during the games. The exhibit will also examine Canada’s participation ithe 1936 Olympics, its response to the international boycott and the experiences of Canadian Olympic athletes.
Research for this project is being conducted by two renowned Canadian scholars; Professor Richard Menkis, University of British Columbia and Professor Harold Troper, Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto.
The exhibit will run from October 2009 to October 2010. |
