Join us for a special presentation by Mr. Akira Kitade, author of Emerging Heroes: WWII-Era Diplomats, Jewish Refugees, and Escape to Japan.

A sequel to Visas of Life and the Epic Journey, Kitade’s book traces the stories of Jewish Holocaust survivors who escaped Europe with the help of diplomat Chiune Sugihara, who issued “visas of life” to Japan. Inspired by an old photo album featuring seven survivors, Kitade uncovers their fates and highlights the efforts of other heroic diplomats who aided Jewish refugees.

A Q&A will follow, and Mr. Kitade will be joined by Dr. George Bluman, professor emeritus of mathematics at the University of British Columbia, who is the child of Sugihara survivors.

This event is free, but we ask that you RSVP to help us anticipate audience numbers. Thank you.
