SEND A TRIBUTE CARD
A tribute card is a meaningful way to mark a special occasion, extend best wishes, or express condolences. Each card acknowledges that a donation has been made to the Vancouver Holocaust Education Centre (VHEC) and can be personalized with your message. A minimum donation of $18 includes postage.

About the Artists
Peter Voormeij z’l
Peter was born in Amsterdam to a Jewish mother and a Catholic father. He survived the war in hiding. His mother, along with more than 140 members of his family, perished in the Holocaust.
Peter studied art at the University of Adelaide and then at Concordia University in Montreal, earning his masters of fine arts in 1970. His instructors included Roy Kiyooka and Yves Gaucher. Peter’s abstract expressionist work has been exhibited in Canada, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland and the US and is held in collections in Europe and North America. He made over 600 paintings.
Peter eventually settled in Vancouver, where he met his partner, Mary Goldie. Peter joined the Child Survivor Group of Vancouver and was a Holocaust survivor outreach speaker.

Sidi Schaffer
Sidi was born in northern Romania. She and her family survived a ghetto in Czernowitz and the Djurin concentration camp in Ukraine. In 1959, Sidi and her family immigrated to Israel, where she studied art education. In 1975, with her husband David and their three sons, she immigrated to Canada.
Sidi returned to studying art, graduating with a bachelor of fine arts from the University of Alberta. In 1998, Sidi and her family settled in Vancouver, where she joined the Child Survivor Group.
Sidi’s art, including her mixed-media piece Earth Don’t Cover Their Blood from the 1998 Gesher Project, conveys the emotional and historical weight of the Holocaust. Her work has served as a tribute to those lost, and as a powerful tool for education.
