The VHEC’s Generations After series, in partnership with Hillel BC, is pleased to present a screening of Son of a Seeker, a documentary written and directed by third-generation filmmaker Kai Balin. The film follows Balin as he navigates his search for identity, faith and belonging within Judaism and the broader Jewish community.

Son of a Seeker is an intimate and contemplative portrait of a grandson shaped by the legacy of survival. Dedicated to Balin’s grandparents, both Holocaust survivors, the film probes the complexities of inheritance, family and generational continuity.

“But survival is not the same as security,” Balin reflects in the film. “My father and I have spent our lives trying to understand what it means to continue.” The event will be followed by a Q and A with the filmmaker.
