In this interactive, in-person workshop, we will explore guiding principles and approaches for the proactive prevention of, as well as immediate and long-term responses to, antisemitism in school systems.

This session is designed to help teachers and equity and school leaders promote safe, culturally reflective and responsive environments where Jewish students experience belonging, inclusion and wellbeing; environments that cultivate curiosity, understanding and connection for non-Jewish students; environments that are resilient to antisemitic tropes, discrimination, hatred and violence.

This session is offered in partnership between Facing History & Ourselves Canada and the Vancouver Holocaust Education Centre.

During the evening workshop, we will:

  • Share strategies, approaches and tools for engaging in what may be difficult, complex, and emotionally sensitive learning
  • Examine the particular manifestations and impacts of antisemitism on students, schools and communities in Canada
  • Explore learning, tools and resources to support you in identifying and combating contemporary antisemitism.
  • Gain engaging multimedia resources and lessons, created for middle and secondary classrooms
  • Learn how to use primary sources to teach about historic antisemitism with the VHEC’s lesson plan, Centuries of Hate: Decoding Antisemitic Artefacts in the VHEC Collection

This three-hour session is open to classroom teachers, equity leaders, school, administrators and district leaders. Dinner will be provided.
